Hey, friends, it’s my birthday! Didn’t you notice the balloons and party poppers and streamers? Grab a slice of cookie cake and settle in for the final snippet from Learning to Love! 😀
Rebecca has just left Towanda’s tent and overhears her conversation with Addie through the flaps…
“God, I’d kill for that figure,” Towanda said.
Addie laughed. “You and me both, sister. I don’t know how you got her to park her butt for a few minutes. That girl looks like she lives on a treadmill.”
“I can never be entirely sure what draws a person into my tent. In her case, I think it was a combination of curiosity and loneliness. The poor dear is looking for love and doesn’t know where to find it.”
In a younger man, apparently, Rebecca mused as her feet surged forward once more. She was more bothered than she cared to admit by Towanda’s words. Mainly because, twenty minutes ago, she wouldn’t have imagined a palm reading would have the power to influence her in any way, shape, or form. But now, well, she somehow felt like she was on the path to finding what she’d been missing.
Here’s the blurb:
Rebecca Ledgerwood is a physical education teacher who’s ready to invest some sweat equity into a lasting romance. William Whitney is a man who’s turned his life upside down in pursuit of making a difference.
The students at Kendal High School face challenges prep school educated Will could never imagine, but his beautiful coworker Rebecca has known firsthand. Though the chemistry between them is strong, they come from vastly different backgrounds.
Rebecca is surprised to discover she and Will have more in common than she realizes. But just when she learns to trust him, Will is faced with the biggest challenge of his life. With their hearts on the line, can Will prove to Rebecca that he’s learned how to love?

Well, I’m back to in-person teaching again tomorrow, so I’ll enjoy my last day of waking up late and wearing my PJs and fuzzy slippers. I’ll be back again next Sunday with a snippet from my WIP, Love Unleashed! See you then!! 🙂
Ahhh, I hope Rebecca finds love – Wait, this is a romance story, right? Of course, she’ll find love! Nice snippet and I still love the name Towanda.
Of course she will! I’ve always loved that name as well. I even named two of my laptops Towanda. Towanda One, and Towanda, Too! 😀
Happy Birthday! 🎂🎉
It definitely sounds like that reading affected her.
Thank you! Yes indeed. That’s sort of the premise of the story, so thank goodness it did. lol
Happy birthday. Cookie cakes sounds awesome. Great snippet. And love your blog–it looks fantastic.
Thank you! Cookie cake is SO good! It’s also referred to as zebra cake. Super easy to make, and absolutely delicious! Thanks re. the blog! I appreciate your support!
Happy Birthday!
The palm reading has made Rebecca ready to make new friends.
Very true, Aurora. Thank you for the b-day wishes! 🙂
I love the way you got to describe Rebecca through the other women’s eyes. And now Rebecca is definitely focused on finding someone. Some of us just need a little push! 🙂 Happy Birthday!
Thank you, Jenna! Rebecca may need a few more pushes and a rough shove or two, but she’s finally on the right track. 😀
Happy Birthday! I’m glad Towanda’s words in the palm reading have pushed Rebecca a bit…always uncomfortable to hear other people discussing oneself so I felt sorry for Rebecca there but she didn’t seem upset…
Thanks, Veronica! In this instance, she had a lot on her mind and wasn’t so fazed by the other comments, but there are other instances in the story where we see how such comments have affected her. 🙂
Happy birthday — but sorry, no present! I finished Learning to Love this week and was impressed by how much your love of teaching shone through.
I’m SO glad to hear that, Ed! That’s exactly what I was hoping for! Thank you!!! 🙂
I feel like I am in a secret club knowing what happens next. LOL. I did not get as far as I expected to. I was behind the keyboard writing my WIP and volunteering at my local library. I know it’s only like twenty or thirty pages, and I am dying to reach the end.
Haha, you lucky duck! 😀 Glad you’ve been busy doing productive things! I’ll be curious to know your thoughts once you’ve reached the end of LtL!
Happy Birthday (a day late)! Towanda reminds me of Fried Green Tomatoes and the parking lot scene where she “accidentally” slams into the girl’s car yelling, “Towanda!”
Anyway, good snippet, Julie. Loved reading bits of this story.
Yes, Diane! That’s exactly the scene that inspired her name! 😀 Thank you for the kind comment and birthday wishes!
