Hiya, peeps! How’s everybody doing on this last day of May? I’m weirdly excited that June is just around the corner so I can sing June is bustin’ out all oh-oh-ver! 😀 Here’s the latest snippet from Learning to Love!
Continuing from where we left off…
After washing her face, Jenna perched herself on the edge of the sink while Ryley took charge of applying the foundation. Rebecca followed her efforts with two swipes of the mascara wand on Jenna’s eyelashes, then she dotted some blush on the apples of her cheeks. Ryley settled on the ‘If Lips Could Kill’ magenta shade of lip gloss to finish the job.
Jenna hopped down and spun around to view herself in the mirror. She beamed at her reflection, then shared her smile with the two people who made it happen. “It’s perfect,” she whispered.
“Not bad for a ten-minute touch-up job, huh?” Rebecca squeezed Jenna’s shoulders as she admired their handiwork.
Both girls nodded.
“You’re super cool, Miss,” Ryley said. “Makes me feel guilty for skipping so many of your classes.”
***End of WWW post, but carry on to finish this scene.***
“Same,” Jenna agreed.
Rebecca laughed. “Good. I’m glad you feel that way ’cause I expect to see you both in my class Monday morning. Got it?”
“Yes, Miss,” they murmured in unison.
“Alright, well, you two finish doing whatever you need to do. I’ll wait for you in the hall.” She strode confidently from the washroom, proud of a job well done, and certain the teens would hold up their end of the bargain come Monday. Girls, no matter what their age, didn’t forget when you went into battle for them. The biggest teaching wins often happened outside the classroom.
Here’s the blurb:
Rebecca Ledgerwood is a physical education teacher who’s ready to invest some sweat equity into a lasting romance. On a whim, she has her palm read before summer vacation ends, and she’s told she’s an old soul who’ll find happiness with a younger man.
William Whitney leaves an unfulfilling career to pursue teaching and gets placed at Rebecca’s school for his physical education practicum. He’s desperate to make a difference, convinced that the choices he made in the past contributed to his younger sister’s death. Kendal High School is nothing like the prep school he attended as a teenager, but he’s determined to make the most of his time there, especially if it makes Rebecca notice him.
Though they come from vastly different backgrounds, there’s an undeniable chemistry that sparks between the two. They resist, as they must, until his practicum ends, but when he’s offered a teaching position at his former prep school, will he take the easy way out, or fight for what’s right in front of him?

Guess what? I have a date with my editor! Learning to Love is due to her on July 20th, so I have between now and then to finish this baby and make it all presentable and stuff. Eep! And yay! I can do this! Enjoy your day, all, and happy writing! 🙂
Julie, my dear friend, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, you are a wonder. So there! Keep it up. Hugs from me. Charmaine Gordon. Oh yes!
😀 You’re too good to me, Charmaine! Thank you for being such a wonderful cheerleader! xo
I love following these snippets and discovering authors that are new to me–and that I want to read!
That’s my favourite part about this blog hop! Thanks for your kind words, Linda! 🙂
Julie this is lovely, I love the description of the makeup process. And don’t sweat meeting, you’ll get everything prepped and rock it. 🙂
Aww, thank you, Brittany, for all of the above! 🙂 I appreciate the support!
She is a thoughtful teacher.
She’s a pretty special lady, that’s for sure. Thanks for stopping by, Aurora! 🙂
Enjoyed this episode and her bonding with the two students. Great snippet!
Thanks, Veronica! I’m so happy to hear that! 🙂
Feeling guilt for skipping classes? Now that shows how big an impression she made!
Haha, no kidding! 😀 Thanks for reading, Ian!
Nice moment, Rebecca handled that all perfectly! This snippet shows a lot about her character, too. Nicely done, my friend!
I’m really glad to hear that, Teresa! I had a lot of fun writing this section. Thanks for your sweet comments! 🙂
But I knew that news. Can I have some other news? 😉 Excellent work. I’m very proud of the way you’re scrambling to get on the podium. Go, Jewels! Write, Jewels!
I can’t help it that you know all my secrets. 😉 Stay tuned for the new news at 11! *writes like the wind*
We need more teachers like her in the real classrooms. And I love the name of the lip gloss! I want some of that! 🙂
I think so, too! Lol if I can ever find that shade, I’ll buy one for both of us! 😀
Great snippet! I bet this is one of the compelling reasons Rebecca became a teacher. Have you ever done anything like this, Julie?
Nothing quite like this, but there have been many unexpected bonding moments with students over the years. Every day is an adventure! 🙂
Nothing like a deadline to get one motivated. Great snippet. We will see how much the girls remember come Monday and if the, “what have you done for me latelies” hit them. It would be nice to see them turned around and even defend the teacher now that she has done good to them.
