Hiya, peeps! Hope you’re enjoying your Labo(u)r Day weekend! I’m soaking up every last minute of freedom before the new school year begins on Tuesday. I’ll be in a new high school, too, but I’m excited for the adventures ahead! Speaking of teaching adventures, here’s more from Learning to Love!
Continuing from where we left off…
Pete turned to her then to make the introductions. “This is Rebecca Ledgerwood, fellow Phys. Ed. teacher, and the only person I know who can throw a better spiral than me.”
William gave her an appreciative smile as he gripped her palm in his own. “Will Whitney, former quarterback.”
Warm tingles radiated through her palm, zapped down her arm, and fired sparks to the rest of her body. Touching the man’s freaking hand did that to her. Just his hand. Totally normal. “Good to…um, nice to meet you.”
“C’mon and I’ll show you around the school,” Pete said, and she was grateful for the interruption because she hadn’t breathed a full breath since Will laid those wicked blue eyes on her.
Here’s the blurb:
Rebecca Ledgerwood is a physical education teacher who’s ready to invest some sweat equity into a lasting romance. On a whim, she has her palm read before summer vacation ends, and she’s told she’s an old soul who’ll find happiness with a younger man.
William Whitney leaves an unfulfilling career to pursue teaching and gets placed at Rebecca’s school for his physical education practicum. He’s desperate to make a difference, convinced that the choices he made in the past contributed to his younger sister’s death. Kendal High School is nothing like the prep school he attended as a teenager, but he’s determined to make the most of his time there, especially if it makes Rebecca notice him.
Though they come from vastly different backgrounds, there’s an undeniable chemistry that sparks between the two. They resist, as they must, until his practicum ends, but when he’s offered a teaching position at his former prep school, will he take the easy way out, or fight for what’s right in front of him?
Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors!
I had such a blast this past Thursday in Toronto. I finally got to meet my editor in person, and, as expected, Sarah is a total sweetheart. She also helped directionally-challenged me to find Kobo headquarters before she had to leave. It’s such a cool office space, you guys. So modern and functional and fabulous. Michael Tamblyn (or MT as I’m now calling him) was super fun to chat with, and I can’t wait for you to hear the Kobo in Conversation podcast! The other podcast I recorded with the Kobo Writing Life ladies will be airing this coming week. 🙂 That’s all for now, my friends. Till next time!
Here comes an interesting problem. I’m eager to see what happens next. Hugs to my good friend, Julie from Charmaine Gordon.
I’d love to have the same interesting problem. 😀 Hugs back to you, my friend! Thanks for stopping by!
Sounds like she’s got it bad already! It’s not going to make work easy. 🙂
Right you are, but she’s a strong, resourceful woman. She’ll find a way! 😉
Yeah, those are the kinds of sparks that don’t go away. Old “Wicked Blue-Eyes” has definitely made an impression!
He has indeed! Thanks for reading, Jenna! 🙂
Oh my, what a first reaction but I love it! Enjoying the story, another terrific snippet…
🙂 Thanks, Veronica! I’m happy to hear that!
As a woman who can throw a spiral, I love former quarterbacks. Excellent work!
And I love that you can throw a spiral…and do other awesome sportsy things. Thanks, Maggie! 😀
Being smitten by a co-worker could, I imagine, turn the workplace into an absolute hell . . . unless of course, he feels the same way. And neither of them are married.
This is the hero of my book, and he’s very much single, as is my heroine. Things will be tricky no matter what, but that’s at least one obstacle they can avoid. 🙂
“wicked blue eyes” Great description. What fun you must’ve had at Kobo HQ. Back to school week is upon you. Enjoy the new class. Our g’kids went back last week. They were ready! (So was their mom.)
Thank you, Diane! I really wish I could work at Kobo HQ. It’s honestly the coolest workplace I’ve ever visited. 🙂 Haha, I bet all the parents in the world are ready for back-to-school time!
“Warm tingles radiated through her palm, zapped down her arm, and fired sparks to the rest of her body.” Love that description – I rather think she likes him! 🙂
Thank you, Hywela! I think you’re spot-on! 😉
