Top of the morning glory muffin to you, my frens! Hope you’re all doing well. It’s time, once again, for a brand new snippet from Learning to Love!
Continuing from where we left off…
Releasing another outraged shriek, the teen burst through the washroom door, her whiskered friend right behind her.
After taking a steadying breath, Rebecca turned to Will again. His eyes searched her own as if trying to gauge whether she regretted the kiss. They both knew the answer.
Yes.
And no. But the no couldn’t be discussed—not yet.
“I’ve got this covered,” she told him, fighting the urge to smooth out the rumples on his dress shirt, and the lines of worry on his face. “You’d better check on Berg and make sure things are okay in the gym.”
He nodded.
Here’s the blurb:
Rebecca Ledgerwood is a physical education teacher who’s ready to invest some sweat equity into a lasting romance. On a whim, she has her palm read before summer vacation ends, and she’s told she’s an old soul who’ll find happiness with a younger man.
William Whitney leaves an unfulfilling career to pursue teaching and gets placed at Rebecca’s school for his physical education practicum. He’s desperate to make a difference, convinced that the choices he made in the past contributed to his younger sister’s death. Kendal High School is nothing like the prep school he attended as a teenager, but he’s determined to make the most of his time there, especially if it makes Rebecca notice him.
Though they come from vastly different backgrounds, there’s an undeniable chemistry that sparks between the two. They resist, as they must, until his practicum ends, but when he’s offered a teaching position at his former prep school, will he take the easy way out, or fight for what’s right in front of him?
Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors!
This time next week, I’ll be back at Dad’s place, celebrating his 70th birthday! He doesn’t know this yet, but I’m surprising him with a rainbow chip cake baked by yours truly. I bought hundreds of colourful sprinkles to make it even more pretty because that’s what every 70-year-old man wants, right? Right. Oh, I should mention that I’ve never baked a cake before. Pray for me, peeps. Enjoy the remainder of April, stay safe, and I’ll see ya next week! 🙂
Oh no! Don’t let the kiss be a mistake….! Great snippet, there’s a lot of emotion being tugged at here.
Thanks, Brittany! Gotta keep things interesting for these two kids. 😀
Well, she can keep a level head when needed (like now–with witnesses). I hope she can lose her mind, though, when the time is right. 😉
Good snippet, my friend.
Haha, don’t we all hope that? 😉 Glad you enjoyed it, Teresa! Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support!
I understand her ambivalence. No time to explore it though. Not with a wailing kid needing help.
Enjoy your visit to your dad. He’ll love the cake, just knowing you baked it. (I would. 😊 Stay safe.
Teen drama, unfortunately, takes precedence. 😉
Thank you! I’m currently getting cake-baking advice from my crit partner. Fingers crossed!
And duty calls….I’m enjoying the story and I love these characters – great snippet!
Sadly, yes. Thank you, Veronica! I’m so happy to hear that! 🙂
Yes . . . and no. What a toss up and a tangle of emotions. Well done, Julie!
Thanks so much, Nancy! It wouldn’t be a high school without emotions aplenty! 😀
For a minute I wondered if the shrieking arose because the student found the teacher kissing. That would’ve been even worse. Like Nancy, I like the “yes…and no.” When a character’s feeling are confused, you’re sometimes better off not even trying to describe them.
Very true. She’s not even entirely sure what she’s feeling or how to express it, so I’m not about to do it for her. 😉
Man, that stink when you kiss someone and you think it might be a mistake. Looking forward to see where this is going to go with these two now.
Two steps forward and twenty steps back. Isn’t that how it goes? 😉 Thanks, Cecilia!
That’s a hard place to be when you want it but you shouldn’t. Hopefully it’ll turn out alright.
And they’re caught. Just when it was getting good! When the sparks fly between these two it’s going to be a bonfire. 🙂
Conflict and confusion. Two great emotions with new uncharted love. Great snippet. I just hope you don’t have conflict and confusion with your cake!! 😀 Best of luck to you and best wishes to you Pop!!
