Hiya, folks! Happy Sunday! It’s been a particularly happy weekend around these parts, but more on that shortly. For now, let’s jump back into Steeped in Love!
Continuing from where we left off. Gwen just asked Ethan for the scoop on bachelor number one, who’s sitting at a nearby table with Addie.
Ethan coughed and pointed to his idling laptop. “I wouldn’t know.”
“She has another date lined up this week, here again.”
“Will that somehow affect me? Do you plan on charging admission?”
“Just making conversation.”
“I’ll be sure to add it to my calendar,” he deadpanned.
“She’s been trying the online dating thing, even answered a few singles ads in The Daily Dispatch. That’s where she found this guy.”
Ethan rarely paid attention to the local newspaper–it was such rubbish, usually–but if Addie found it interesting….
Here’s the blurb:
Addie Mitchell is a pie-on-the-fly entrepreneur who’s finally ready to settle down in the big, empty house her late great-aunt Edna left to her. Frustrated with her lack of success in romance, Addie turns to another gift her great-aunt passed on to her—the art of reading tea leaves—to aid her in her search for the ideal mate.
Novelist Ethan Holtz is having a hard time sinking his teeth into his next project, but he finds Addie fascinating. Mainly for her ability to make her dates disappear in fifteen minutes or less. He can’t help but eavesdrop on her dates in the local coffee shop, his writing haven, and soon finds himself taking pointers on what not to do from her failed suitors.
Though her methods seem nothing short of mad, he falls fast and hard for the pixie-haired pie-pusher. She thinks they’re all wrong for each other, but Ethan teams up with the tea leaves to prove they’re so right.

So, about that happy-talk…I’m writing this post on Saturday night, but I can almost guarantee that by the time you read it, I’ll be eating cake. I’m eating it right now, too. Ya know why? ‘Cause it’s delicious, and ’cause there were birthdays to celebrate–my grandma’s (93) and my brother’s (36)! And the crazy birthday lady and gent let Dad and I take some cake home with us. I’m surprised it even made it out of the car, to be quite honest. We had such a fun day with the fam. The festivities kicked off at 10:30 am, we had all kinds of snacks (veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, fruit, cheesies, and chips) followed by an early lupper at one of those places with the all-you-can-eat breadsticks and salad, and then cake! Might be a few days before this sugar rush wears off. In the meantime, I wish all of you a wonderful week ahead! 🙂
Haha, I’m sure Addie is thrilled that Gwen is sharing the details of her love life. How will he use the info, I wonder?
Yeah, Gwen might lose best friend status pretty soon. 😉 Thanks, Christina! Stay tuned!
Ooo! I wonder if that’s how he’ll try to get her attention! That would be adorable! 😀
Well, not exactly, but that’s a very clever angle! *contemplates rewrite* lol Thanks, Amy! 😀
Charming story developing at a nice pace. Regarding cake-my hubs has his 82nd B’day this very day. He’s terrific after 24 years we’re still cool no matter what’s going on.
Love to you, my friend.
Then I wish him a very happy birthday! 🙂 Thanks so much, Charmaine! Sending love right back to you. xo
Happy birthday to your Hubs, Charmaine. A great day. My b’day, too.
Oh, happy birthday, Diane! Enjoy your celebrations! 🙂
I think it’s pretty telling that Ethan’s ready to change his opinion on the “rubbish” newspaper based solely on Addie’s use of it. Very cute snippet!
I had cake yesterday too! Mine looked like a onesie, because it was a baby shower for a co-worker. We decorated onesies, too. Wonder where that idea came from?
Thanks, A-M! 🙂
Cake twins! I’m glad I haven’t been asked to decorate a onesie. If you saw how I butchered the cake, then you’d know why. lol
I am really enjoying these snippets. But when will he make his move? C’mon, guy. Show her you’re interested!
Ethan is the slow and steady type, but let’s just hope he’s not too slow for a girl who moves at lightning speed. lol. Thanks, Diane!
I love how you end this snippet by creating questions in our minds. Clearly he’s going to do something regarding the newspaper, and I’m looking forward to finding out what.
Or maybe I’m steering you in the entirely wrong direction. You never know! lol. Thanks, Ed!
Maybe since he’s a writer, he should write an editorial for the newspaper, Ed… Julie, this guy’s thought process is delightful! I’m having so much fun following his internalization of this dating game!
I’m SO happy to hear that, Elizabeth! Thank you! I’ve got a huge smile on my face right now–kinda like this one: 😀
Oh, and birthday wishes to all…Diane, Char’s hubby…your family members…wow! Lots of frosting around this week! Yummy!
Cake, cake, for everyone! Thanks again, Elizabeth! <3
I think Gwen is on to his snooping. Maybe she thinks Ethan might be a better fit, and that’s why she’s giving him all this info.
Enjoy the cake! 🙂
Cake’s all gone and in my tummy. 😀 Thanks, Caitlin!
Ha! Loved their banter. “Do you plan on charging admission?” Might be smart, if he figures out how not to be a fifteen-minute wonder!
Great premise for the book. Looking forward to more!
Lol, no kidding.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! 🙂
Ethan surely has it bad LOL. Enjoying the story, always love your ‘voice’!
And I always love your comments! Thanks, Veronica! 🙂
