Greetings, my word-loving friends! I’m a little bit loopy as I type this post. I blame it on the cold meds and the fact that I’ve slept more than I’ve been awake the last couple days, but I think I’m over the worst of it! 🙂 So, I shall make the most of my wakey time and share another snippet from Learning to Love!
Continuing from where we left off….
Pete jammed his key into the lock, and Will held his breath. Rebecca might be on the other side of the door. God, he hoped she was and prayed she wasn’t. He felt like a teenager again, scared as hell of talking to the prettiest girl and bullheaded enough to try, knowing that if he didn’t, somebody else would get to her first.
Disappointment lodged in his gut as the door opened to a Rebecca-less office. Pete set about gathering up his things, clearly anxious for his weekend to begin, and Will propped himself against the desk they’d designated for him to use while he worked there, if you could even call it a desk. Three of the drawers were jammed shut and the surface looked like it’d been through a war and came out on the losing side. But, it was his. And it was right next to Rebecca’s desk.
“All right, I’m outta here,” Pete said, giving him a smile as he passed by.
Here’s the blurb:
Rebecca Ledgerwood is a Physical Education teacher who’s ready to invest some sweat equity into a lasting romance. On a whim, she has her palm read before summer vacation ends, and she’s told she’s an old soul who’ll find happiness with a younger man.
William Whitney leaves an unfulfilling career to pursue teaching and gets placed at Rebecca’s school for his Physical Education practicum. He’s desperate to make a difference, convinced that the choices he made in the past contributed to his younger sister’s death. Kendal High School is nothing like the prep school he attended as a teenager, but he’s determined to make the most of his time there, especially if it makes Rebecca notice him.
Though they come from vastly different backgrounds, there’s an undeniable chemistry that sparks between the two. They resist, as they must, until his practicum ends, but when he’s offered a teaching position at his former prep school, will he take the easy way out, or fight for what’s right in front of him?
Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors!
Friends, I’m feeling very unmotivated as of late. I haven’t been doing much writing. I’ve been waiting and waiting to hear from agents and publishers, getting my fair share of rejections along the way, and I’m so anxious to get a bit of good news. All it takes is one YES, but it feels like I’ve been waiting an eternity for that YES. Le sigh. The torment of being an author. Fingers crossed, in the next week or two I’ll get that YES. Believe me, when it comes, you’ll be able to hear my squeals and shrieks across the border. 🙂 Enjoy your week, my dears, and happy Easter!
There’s something rather touching about him sitting alone in the empty office, dreaming. But will it remain empty?
Or will HE remain in there? You’ll find out in a couple weeks! 🙂 Thanks, Ed!
I believe it was the great philosopher, Tom Petty, who said, “The waiting is the hardest part…” Hang tight. April is almost here!
Truer words were never sung. Hurry up, April!
Thanks, Maggie! xo
Awww he’s too cute!
🙂 Thanks, Amy!
That’s so sweet and vulnerable. Can’t wait to see how this plays out!
You won’t have to wait long! Thanks, Christina! 🙂
Sounds like “right next to Rebecca’s desk” is the most important feature here 🙂 Great conflict of emotions at the start.
Ding, ding, ding! You are correct, sir! 😀 Thanks so much!
He’s smitten. Happy that he’s next to her DESK! Nice job, Jules
Haha, it’s all about proximity. 😀 Thanks, Sue!
Interesting turn to the story here, enjoyed the snippet. Personally, I found wayyyy too much time passed me by in the trad pub process, waiting for this or that, and have never looked back from being self published. But I hope *your* dream comes true however you want it to be. You can REALLY write these fun, frothy stories 🙂 I always love your words…
I appreciate your support and advice, Veronica! Self-publishing has certainly been on my mind as of late. I may decide to take that route at some point…maybe sooner than later. Many thanks for your positive comments! 🙂
That does sound like quite a battered desk. But you know what they say–location, location, location!
Good luck on your yes. Hope you get one soon! 🙂
You got that right!
Thanks so much, Caitlin! I hope you get your book mail soon! 🙂
Waiting is such sweet agony for the characters, and such sweet reading for the real people. 🙂
I hope your cold ends asap. And I hope your publishing wishes come true. I just love that tea leaves story. Either way it’s published, I will be buying a copy.
Hugs 🙂
Very true!
Aww, Teresa, you’re so sweet. I’m excited to get it out there and share it with the world! One way or another, I will! 🙂 *hugs*
Aww, too cute! Hope he’s still smitten once he gets to know her better. Love how they both had the instant attraction to each other.
I’ll have my antenna tuned towards the north. I definitely want to hear when that YES finally comes through!
Feel better – this is a terrible time of the year to get saddled with a cold.
Poor guy. All alone with his thoughts. And aren’t those lovely thoughts???
Hope you continue feeling better. This has been a bad winter for flu and other illnesses. Hang in there.
